About Everwood

Everwood is an educational consulting firm, specializing in providing educational enrichment and academic coaching to students in grades 6-12. Our clients are currently studying in schools in mainland China, international schools in Asia and Europe, or boarding schools in the US. A large part of our work consists of preparing students to apply to and attend a college or university abroad. We aim to help students achieve their fullest potential, in their own unique ways. As part of this mission, we are committed to helping them understand themselves as learners and identify programs that are good fits for them, in the most holistic sense.

Our Approach and Philosophy

As part of our coaching, we encourage all students to initiate projects that utilize their unique talents and resources to fill community needs. We engage them in thinking about social issues and brainstorming ideas, and we offer suggestions and support when they run into problems. In the context of this project-centered approach, our students develop flexibility, independence, and problem solving, communication & critical thinking skills -- competencies that matter the most to their future success in college and in life.

Each consultant in our practice works with no more than 10 students each year, to ensure the highest standard of counseling. We spend an average of 100 hours with each student, and the content of these hours is truly bespoke.

Services Offered

Educational advising

Consultation tailored to the needs and goals of each student. Families can choose hourly appointments or a full advising package that renews annually.

ESL Academic English reading and writing classes

Students will get assessed into three levels of classes offered at Everwood. For students who do not fit into the three levels, we offer one-on-one tutoring sessions. Classes focus on vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension, making use of a literature-based curriculum, which previews the sort of instruction they will receive in boarding schools and colleges.

Everwood summer camp

Our week-long summer camp takes place on an organic farm just outside of Beijing. We combine guided reading activities with experiential learning on the farm to create a memorable summer experience.

Parent Engagement

Everwood Learning wants to help parents become better at educating their own children. We recognize that the unique challenge faced by this generation of Chinese parents is that the majority of them have not studied abroad or attended an international program when they were kids. Therefore, it’s very difficult for parents to understand and relate to what their child is going through.

At Everwood, we put things in context for parents to understand the opportunities and challenges that come with educating their child in a western-style school. Through education salons and webinars for parents, official Wechat and Weibo account, and presentations done at our partner organizations, we promote the idea of families making informed educational decisions based on what’s best for their own child. Our aspiration is to encourage parents in China to break away from the culture of simply emulating what other families do with their own children.

It takes a solid team – child, parents, educational consultant, teachers in school, the child’s sports coach or other mentors – to execute the plan to achieve good results. To this end, educators at Everwood are open to working closely with student’s family and engage in conversations about the student with other adults in a student’s life.
